SSF coordinated communication example

This is an example of a public communication that is coordinated between a campaign committee and a separate segregated fund (SSF).

When an SSF pays for a communication that is coordinated with a campaign or a candidate, the communication is an in-kind contribution from the SSF to the campaign and is subject to amount limitations and reporting by both the campaign and the SSF.

If a public communication is an electioneering communication, contains express advocacy, or solicits contributions, and is authorized by the candidate or campaign but paid for by someone else (such as a political action committee, a party committee or an individual), the communication must provide a disclaimer that identifies the person who paid for it and states that it was authorized by the candidate or campaign.

A disclaimer must be clear and conspicuous. A disclaimer is not clear and conspicuous if the print is difficult to read or if the disclaimer is easily overlooked. The disclaimer must appear within a printed box set apart from the contents of the communication. The print of the disclaimer must be of sufficient size to be “clearly readable” by the recipient of the communication, and there must be a reasonable degree of color contrast between the background and the printed statement. Black text in 12-point font on a white background is one way to satisfy this requirement for printed material measuring no more than 24 inches x 36 inches.
